There was another winner at the January 30 chili cook off, although a different kind of winner. Deanna Jared, a KCC student and Saint Helen resident, applied to be a Kirtland Community College Student Ambassador and won! She along with Roberta Eveleth, Kirtland Community College Facilities assistant, sold $57 worth of 50/50 raffle tickets. These proceeds, like the proceeds from the chili, went to the Kirtland’s Student Leadership Scholarship Fund. Chili cook off is one of many fundraisers employees do for this scholarship, other fundraisers include: bake sales, cookie sales during KCPA performances, and raffling off Kathleen Wray’s famous professionally done homemade cakes.

Here is a brief q@a done with Jared.

Q: What do you do as a Kirtland Community College Student Ambassador?

A: Ambassadors put in 60 hours of service on campus and earn a $500 scholarship. We also help promote Kirtland. Our services involve activities like fundraisers and welcome week.

Q: What do you like about being an Ambassador?

A. I LOVE it! I LOVE being an ambassador because I love Kirtland and I love helping out at events like these. I also love the staff, they are so helpful. I enjoy going to different high schools to talk to students about Kirtland. I tell them why it was the right decision for me.
